CASES வேற்றுமை உருபு in Tamil

In a sentence , a relationship between a noun and a verb is the case.It is represented by a suffix or post position.

Suffixes

1) NOMINATIVE

When the noun ends with ‘m’ sound , the ‘m’ sound is removed and ‘th’ sound is added .Nominative case has an unmarked suffix.

Example:

சிங்கத்தை கொன்றான் / சிங்கம் + கொன்றான் He Killed the Lion
மரத்தை வெட்டினான் / மரம் + வெட்டினான் He cut the tree 

2) ACCUSATIVE

If the noun or pronoun is used as an object of the verb,then it becomes Accusative case.It is also reffered as Objective case.It is optional only if it is non human object .ஐ ( ai ) is added to the end of the noun.

பாட்டுப் பாடுகிறாள் / பாட்டு + பாடுகிறாள்	She sings a song

3) ASSOCIATIVE

Associative case has ஓடு (out ) as a suffix.Sometimes also replaced by உடன் ( utan ).

குடத்துடன் வந்தாள் / குடம் + வந்தாள்	She came with a pot

4) INSTRUMENTAL

Instrumental case has ஆல் ( al ) .Sometimes also replaced by கொண்டு ( kontu ).

5) DATIVE

Dative case has a suffix உக்கு ( ukku ) .Sometimes also replaced with அக்கு ( akku )

6) GENETIVE

Genetive case has அது ( athu ) as a suffix.Sometimes replaced with உடைய ( utaya ).

7) LOCATIVE

Locative case has a suffix இல் ( il ).Sometimes for the noun , it has a suffix இடம் ( itam ).

8) VOCATIVE

Vocative has the suffix ஏ ( ee ).

Post Position ( பின் இடைச்சொல் )

The word that act as a case suffix is the post position.

EXAMPLES

1) சென்னையை விட மும்பை பெரியது .
Chennai is bigger than Mumbai .

2) சூரிய காந்தி சூரியனை நோக்கி மலர்கிறது .
Sunflower blossoms towards sun .

3) எனக்காக விட்டுக்கொடு . 
Concede for me .

4) செய்தித்தாள் பாலுக்கு முன் வந்துவிட்ட்து . 
Newspaper delivered before milk .

5) கைத்தடி அவருக்கு உரியது .
Stick belongs to him .

6) அனுபவம் மூலமாக அறிந்தேன் . 
Understood by experience .

7) மக்கள் மேல் குற்றமில்லை . 
No fault with people .

8) உன் பொருட்டு தியாகம் செய்தேன் . 
I sacrificed because of you.

9) அங்கிருந்து சென்றீர்களா ?
Did you go from there.

10) எவரிடமிருந்து பெற்றீர்கள். 
From whom you got it.

11) முடியும் வரை செய்யுங்கள்.
Do how much you could.

12) நாள் தோறும் கடமையைச் செய் .
Do your duty daily.

13) சத்தியாக்கிரகம் காந்தியுடைய தனி வழி .
